Andrei Grositsky (1934–2017) painted anonymous, factory-made and worn objects: weights, meat grinders, locks, scraps of pipe. He enlarged them and painted them with an almost sculptural solidity. In 2007 the Tretyakov Gallery held his solo exhibition. He said that the object had long held a secret meaning for him. In 2021 the Moscow Museum of Modern Art showed his exhibition Thingness, curated by Sergei Khachaturov.
