From the series Black Geometry
David Ter-Oganyan (b. 1981) studied with his father Avdey Ter-Oganyan and with Anatoly Osmolovsky. In 2011 he received the Henkel Art.Award, and in 2012 the mumok museum in Vienna held his solo exhibition. He first showed the Black Geometry series at Marat Guelman Gallery in 2009. Its white canvases carry the black silhouettes of African states. In the artist's statement, the series shows the outlines of African countries carved up at the will of colonial regimes.
