Francisco Infante (b. 1943) was a member of Lev Nusberg's kinetic group Dvizhenie (Movement) in the 1960s. From 1963 he worked in tempera and gouache on cycles of sheets in which points and lines form ovals, verticals and spirals. The running theme of these sheets is infinity. Comparable sheets of 1965 are held by the Centre Pompidou and the Zimmerli Art Museum (USA). The artist lives and works in Moscow.

1995 · Cibachrome print · 50 × 50 cm

Since the mid-1970s Francisco Infante's (b. 1943) main form has been the artefact. He places an artificial object in a natural landscape, photographs it and then removes it; the photograph remains as the work. Since 1968 he has worked with his wife, the artist Nonna Goryunova. In Infante's words, his artefacts are "not paintings and not photographs". His work is held by Tate (London), and his artefacts by the Zimmerli Art Museum (USA).

1972 · Tempera on photographic reproduction · 35.6 × 54.6 cm

The work is painted in tempera over a photographic reproduction of a mountain landscape. Its author, Francisco Infante (b. 1943), was a member of the kinetic group Dvizhenie (Movement) in the 1960s. In 1970, with Nonna Goryunova and Valery Osipov, he founded the group ARGO. The spiral has been a recurring motif of his since the 1960s. Since the mid-1970s Infante has worked with artefacts: geometric objects placed in nature and recorded by photography.

Untitled. Artefacts. From the series Suprematist Games. Version A

1968 · Cibachrome print · 50 × 50 cm

In 1968 Francisco Infante and Nonna Goryunova began a series of spontaneous games in nature. They laid out shapes of painted cardboard on snow and photographed them, as a tribute to Kazimir Malevich, the founder of Suprematism. The Suprematist Games cycle is regarded as the forerunner of Infante's artefacts. Three prints from the cycle, dated 1968/1994, are in the Tate collection in London. A 1968 print is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
